By downloading or using Pink Trope you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please delete the app.

Pink Trope is published by Danielius Studio LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company at 30 N Gould St, Suite #5280, Sheridan, WY 82801, USA.

What the app does

You choose a Torah or Haftarah portion, or any verse range you like from the Hebrew Bible, and chant it aloud into your iPhone. The app scores two things at once and entirely on the device: which words you read correctly, using Apple's on-device Hebrew speech recognition, and how closely your sung pitch matched the expected melody, using a bundled Core ML pitch model. The expected melody comes from the cantillation marks already present in the Hebrew text, read through a table of motifs for the tradition you selected. Ashkenazi and Sephardi traditions ship with the app.

Licence

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use Pink Trope on iPhones you own or control, subject to Apple's standard Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement, which is incorporated by reference: apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula. Where these terms and Apple's agreement conflict, Apple's agreement controls.

A practice aid, not a teacher

Pink Trope is a tool for rehearsing between lessons. It is not a tutor, not a cantor, and not a rabbi, and it does not certify that you are ready to read from the bimah. A high score means the app heard words and pitches close to the ones it expected, nothing more. Keep working with the person teaching you.

Accuracy of text and melody

The Hebrew text, including its vowels and cantillation marks, is the Westminster Leningrad Codex, which is in the public domain. It is a scholarly edition of the Masoretic text and may differ in small ways from the printed chumash or tikkun your community uses.

The motif tables that turn each cantillation mark into a melody are the developer's rendering of traditional melodies. Trope melodies are a living oral practice and vary by community, by congregation, and by teacher, and they also differ between Torah, Haftarah, and the festival readings. Treat the melody the app expects as one reasonable version, not as the authoritative one.

Always confirm your portion, your verse range, and your melody with your own tutor or clergy before the day. If what the app expects and what your teacher taught you disagree, your teacher is right.

Scoring limits

Speech recognition and pitch detection are approximate. A loud room, microphone quality, a changing voice, or an unusual pronunciation can all lower a score on a reading that was in fact correct, and a generous score can occasionally land on a reading that was not. Use the scores as a rehearsal signal, not as a verdict.

Permissions and recordings

Scoring requires microphone access and speech recognition permission, which the app requests the first time you tap record. Recordings are processed on the device and deleted after scoring unless you choose to keep the attempt. Nothing is uploaded. See the Privacy Policy for the detail.

Free use, subscriptions, and the lifetime unlock

The app is free to download. Pro unlocks unlimited practice attempts, every trope tradition in the app, and the year archive. Pro is offered as a monthly subscription, an annual subscription, or a one-time lifetime purchase.

Subscriptions renew automatically through your Apple ID unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Apple charges your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase and at each renewal. Manage or cancel a subscription in iOS Settings under your Apple ID, then Subscriptions. The lifetime option is a single purchase with no renewal.

All payments are handled by Apple. We never see your payment details and we cannot issue refunds. Refund requests go to Apple.

Your practice history

Attempts are stored only on your device. Deleting the app deletes them permanently. There is no cloud copy, so we cannot restore them.

Acceptable use

Do not reverse engineer, modify, redistribute, or create derivative works from the app, except where applicable law expressly allows it.

Intellectual property

The app's software, interface, artwork, name, and the motif tables written for it remain the property of Danielius Studio LLC. Your licence to use the app grants no ownership in any of it.

The underlying Hebrew scripture is not ours and is not claimed by us. The text is the Westminster Leningrad Codex, in the public domain, obtained through the Open Scriptures Hebrew Bible project (openscriptures/morphhb); the morphological additions in that project are licensed CC BY 4.0. Attribution also appears inside the app.

No warranty

The app is provided as is and as available, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or accurate for your community practice.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Danielius Studio LLC is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the app, including any reliance on a score or on the melody the app expected.

Apple

These terms are between you and Danielius Studio LLC, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its contents. Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these terms and may enforce them against you.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, USA, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Sheridan County, Wyoming, except where Apple's agreement requires otherwise.

Changes

We may update these terms. Material changes are reflected in the date at the top, and continued use after a change means you accept the new terms.
