Privacy Policy

Short version

Pink Trope is a chanting trainer for Torah and Haftarah reading. You pick a portion, chant it out loud, and the app scores your words and your melody. All of that happens on your iPhone. There are no accounts, no sign-up, no server we operate, no analytics, and no tracking. Your recordings never leave the phone.

What we collect

Nothing. No name, no email, no password, no device identifiers, no usage data, no diagnostics, no crash reporting, no advertising identifiers. The app has no sign-up screen because there is no account to sign up for.

Microphone and speech recognition

Scoring needs to hear you, so the app asks for microphone access and for permission to use speech recognition. It asks only at the moment you first tap record, not on launch.

Both checks run on the device. Word accuracy uses Apple's on-device Hebrew dictation model built into iOS 26. Melody accuracy uses a Core ML pitch model bundled inside the app, which listens to the pitch you sing and compares it with the motif expected for each cantillation mark. Neither step sends your audio to Apple, to us, or to anyone else.

The recording made during an attempt is used for scoring and then deleted, unless you choose to keep that attempt. Kept audio stays in the app's own storage on your phone.

What stays on your device

Your practice attempts, meaning the passage you chanted, the word and melody scores, the date, and any audio you chose to keep. They are saved in the app's local SwiftData store. There is no cloud sync and no backup on our side, so your practice history exists only on that phone.

Networking

The Hebrew text, the cantillation marks, the trope motif tables, and the pitch model all ship inside the app. Practice works with the phone in airplane mode. The only network activity is Apple's own handling of in-app purchases.

Purchases

The Pro subscription and the lifetime unlock are processed by Apple. We never see your card number, billing address, or any payment detail. Apple returns only an anonymous receipt confirming what you are entitled to.

Children

Students preparing for a Bar or Bat Mitzvah are usually children, and the app was written with that in mind. It collects no personal data from anyone, children included, so there is nothing for us to disclose, sell, or share with a third party. No profile is built, no identifier is assigned, and no message can reach a student through the app.

Deleting your data

Delete the app. That removes every attempt, every kept recording, and every setting. Because none of it was ever copied off the phone, nothing survives the deletion anywhere else. Microphone and speech permission can be withdrawn at any time in iOS Settings under Privacy and Security.
