SMALT Smalt Pottery Marl Lane, on the River Teal. Since 1894.
Illustrative brand: the family, the place and the dates on this page are invented.
We make blue and cream stoneware by hand in a bottle kiln built in 1894. Every card in the deck is true here: the clay is dug a mile away, the blue is ground by hand, and every pot is signed with a thumb.
Four generations of the Pell family have fired the same kiln. They still do it with wood, still in shifts, and still with a kettle on the nearest fire mouth.
